Assessment

In addition to state mandated AIMS testing, ACE and YouthWorks Charter High Schools administer the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) tests from Northwest Evaluation Association (NWEA).

MAP tests are computerized adaptive assessments. Adaptive tests become more challenging with each correct answer and easier with each incorrect answer.

MAP tests determine a student's instructional level and measure academic growth in Reading, Language Usage, and Mathematics. Some students will be assessed in Science, depending on grade level and course enrollment.

Teachers use the results to guide student learning and influence curriculum choices and special program enrollment. MAP tests help teachers prepare students for the AIMS tests, which are required for graduation. Results also provide valuable feedback on the effectiveness of teachers and ACE/YouthWorks as a whole. All students must take these tests and do their very best.

MAP results are reported as RIT scores rather than a percentage of correct verses incorrect answers. RIT scores highlight specific areas that require focus. A full explanation of RIT scores and sample reports can be found in the Parent Toolkit and Sample Student Report .

All students enrolled at ACE/YouthWorks will take NWEA tests three times a year. For testing dates, see the ACE/YouthWorks 2011-2012 Calendar .

Parents may request student results at any time by calling ACE/YouthWorks or emailing the district testing coordinator. Results will be mailed home with report cards.

Additional information about NWEA and the MAP tests can be found at www.nwea.org.
