ACE and Youth Works schools will be closed through April 10, 2020. In response to mandatory school closures, the Arizona Legislature has passed legislation requiring:
- School administrators to make every effort to provide continued education learning opportunities through online resources or materials that can be sent home.
- Beginning on March 30, 2020, each public school must offer students general education delivery via alternative formats as determined by the public school for the duration of the closure.
ACE and Youth Works have developed an online and distance education learning opportunity for all students.
Tucson Youth Development and its schools will make Chromebook laptop computers available to any student who needs this as a learning tool to access online curriculum and communicate with teacher, tutors, counselors, and administrators.
- Chromebooks will be distributed at each school, Friday March 27th from 11:00 am - 3:00 pm and Monday March 30th from 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm. Students and/or their parent/guardian will need to sign the Chromebook policy agreement in order for the Chromebook to be provided to them. In order to follow CDC social distancing recommendations, students and families should come pick up their computer and leave the school as soon as possible. All students and family members should maintain at least 6’ to 10’ separation from other people while picking up their computer.
- COX Internet service provider is making internet access available to families living in the ACE and Youth Works communities for very low cost. It is free for the first 2 months. Families should begin the process of applying for these reduced cost internet access services as soon as possible. Go to this link to begin the process of establishing low cost internet services in your home: cox.com/residential/internet/connect2compete.html
Attendance clerks will contact families to verify a Cox setup has been established (if needed). Bilingual support staff can be used for contacting Spanish-speaking families.
- Information related to school closures will be updated regularly on the schools’ websites:
Information will be provided regarding tutoring services, multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) and Community Schools programs.
